Tragically on February 7, 2010, Jessie’s life was cut short and taken when he was struck and killed by a car in a hit and run in South San Francisco, California. Born in San Francisco on August 14, 1988, Jessie Wiley 21, beloved son of Bernetta Burwell Wiley and Phillip Wiley; preceded in death by his sister, Emerald Desire Wiley; Jessie touched many lives with his kindness and his carefree and genuinely compassionate spirit; his friendship was a treasured gift.
Jessie was a cherished grandson of Carbby Burwell and Clara Burwell, Mary Wiley and the late Henry Porter Wiley, Jessie (Papa) and Ruth (Nonnie) Collier; loving nephew of the late George Miller and Betty Miller and of Tomeka Brenita Burwell, Quentin Lee Burwell (wife Lisa) of Huntsville, AL, Edward Moore of Huntsville, AL, Carbby Burwell Jr. (wife Vera) of Toney, AL, Otis Burwell of Huntsville AL, Darryl Burwell (wife Amanda) of Huntsville, AL, Patricia Smith (husband Curtis) of Huntsville, AL, Vernell Burwell of Power Springs, GA, Carla Canty (husband Patrick) of Birmingham, AL, Marcus Petty (wife Kimberly) of Huntsville, AL, Brooklin Johnson of Madison, AL, Dr. Kimberly Ann Wiley, of Vacaville, CA, Theora Lynn Wiley of Portland, OR, Odessa Justine Wiley of San Francisco, CA, and Maureen Grace Wiley of Antioch, CA; dear great nephew of Pearlie Mae and John Draper of Chattanooga, TN and great, great nephew of Katie Smith of Triana, AL; loving godfather of Tyler and Taylor of Huntsville, AL; dear godson of Frederick Collier (daughter Liberty), Sonja Collier, Ralph and Deborah Tucker; also will be lovingly remembered by his god-sisters Shonda and Alexandria Tucker, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Jessie, leaves behind an everlasting memory of kindness, generosity, friendship and love to all who knew him. He will always be remembered for his soft-spoken demeanor and pleasant attitude that he portrayed on a daily basis. Jessie played football for South City High School and was currently attending Skyline College working towards a degree in radiology. He also enjoyed playing basketball, video games, and spending time with friends, relatives and his dog “Dooney”. Jessie was well known for his sense of humor and a laughter that could brighten up anybody’s day.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Draper Memorial Church of God in Christ (313 Beirne Avenue, NE, Huntsville, AL 35801) with Elder Dave Draper officiating. Interment will be held in St. James Cemetery. Mr. Wiley will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.
