Ms. Martha Lee Watkins Lewis

Ms. Martha Lee Watkins Lewis was born April 18, 1944 in Morgan County, Alabama and was raised in Big Cove, Alabama in Madison County. She departed this life on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her father, Horace Watkins, Sr.; mother, Annie Draper Watkins and brother, James Earl Watkins. She was the fourth child of nine siblings.

Martha accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was known as Martha Lee, Ms. Lewis, Martha, Auntie, Martlee, Mama, Granny, Big Sis, and Sister.

Martha graduated from W.H. Councill Training High School in Normal, Alabama. She attended J.F. Drake State Technical College and graduated as a licensed cosmetologist and LPN Nurse.

Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, fishing, reading the bible, playing with her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Martha Lee loved life and was a cheerful person who always had a smile on her face. She never met a stranger and would listen to anyone in need of conversation. She was the “BIG MAMA” of the family.

Martha Lee leaves to cherish her memory: two loving children, Calvin Watkins and Cassandra (Charles) Taylor of Huntsville, AL; three grandchildren: Cebastian and Chancey Taylor, Julius Miles Watkins of Huntsville, AL; two sisters: Sulla Mae Cummings of Indianapolis, IN and Ethelene (Richard) Crimes of Huntsville, AL; five brothers: Horace Watkins, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN, Roosevelt (Emma Louise) Watkins, William Watkins, Leroy Watkins, and Robert (Sharon) Watkins of Huntsville, AL; three aunts: True Love Henderson of Indianapolis, IN, Isabella Toney of Madison, AL, and Amy Draper of Huntsville, AL; one uncle: Oscar Draper of Huntsville, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She also shared that sisterly love with a special cousin, Christine Tate of Madison, AL and a devoted friend, James Fields.

Martha Lee, you have touched all of us in a special way. We love you and we know that you loved us. Our hearts are heavy, our eyes filled with tears and we are saddened to have to let you go. God knew what was best for you and saw a need for you to come home. Our love for you will forever live.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church (315 Winchester Road; Huntsville, AL 35810) with Dr. O. Wendell Davis officiating. Interment will be in the Big Cove Cemetery. Ms. Lewis will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.

A visitation with family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the Royal Chapel of Memories.

Public viewing will be from 12:00 Noon until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2012; and from 8:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. on Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Royal Funeral Home.
