Corey Ryan Murray was born December 7, 1991 in Los Angeles, California to parents, Ronald Keith Murray and Susan Marie Parks. God also placed in his life, Michael Parks who helped raise Corey since five years old. On October 28, 2012, at the age of 20, he died tragically.
Corey grew up in San Fernando Valley, California. He attended the Walter Reed Middle School and then the North Hollywood High School. Upon the family relocating to Huntsville, Alabama, Corey attended Sparkman High School. It was there Corey’s peers affectionately gave him the nickname “Hollywood”. In an effort to continue his education, he was enrolled at the Calhoun Community College.
Corey from a young child always loved sports. In California, he played in the Pop Warner Football League and for the Chatsworth Chiefs for North Hollywood High School. After his move to Huntsville, he also played for the Sparkman High Senators. He was an exceptional player. Although he loved all sports, Corey's favorite sports team was the Los Angeles Lakers.
Corey had a love for music, travel, and adventure. He was a very outgoing and loving person. His love for people was very profound and meaningful; Corey was love. This was evident to his mother before Corey was born. She knew his name was going to be significant, "Corey" meaning "The Chosen One". As stated in Ecclesiastes 3:1, "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven, Corey's life was taken to change lives.”
Countless memories are cherished and left with his mother, Susan Parks, and step-father, Michael Parks "Pops"; father, Ronald Murray; sisters, Christina Murray, Mikhaela Parks, and Maya Parks; brothers, Ronald Murray, Jr., Michael Parks, Jr., and Markus Parks; grandparents, James and Verma Horne, Solomon and Patricia Dancil, Charles and Thelma Lee, Alfred and Beth Murray, Michael Parks, Sr., and Lela Parks, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and dear friends.
