The late Sue Verner Douglas Burkfield was born to the late Al Douglas and Laura E. Brandon Douglas on July 22, 1927, in Cedar Point, AL. She was the tenth child of twelve children. She completed her education in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She obeyed the gospel at Franklin Street Church of Christ in the early 60’s under the leadership of Brother Robert Butler. She remained a faithful member of Farris Drive Church of Christ until her health began to fail her. She loved her church family.
Sue was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was married to John W. Burkfield for 64 years and believed what God joined together was forever. To this union one son was born, Lee Vester Burkfield.
She loved to make peanut brittle and coca cola cakes for special family occasions. She loved making quilts and pillows to give as gifts.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, John W. Burkfield; son, Lee Vester Burkfield (Sue); a nephew, Alfred A. Douglas, whom she raised as her son; one grandson, Fredrick Leevon Burkfield; three great grandsons, Jeremy Skinner, Frederick Burkfield Jr., and Bralin Campbell Burkfield, one granddaughter, Bernetta Skinner; one brother, Gilbert Douglas (Pearl) of Saginaw, MI; one sister, Effie Douglas Gaines; a niece, Juraline Douglas Acklin, who was raised up with her as her sister; two sisters-in-law, Pearline Douglas (Lester) and Maxine (Micki) Douglas of Saginaw, MI; one aunt, Claudia B.
